Well, they are a mixture that contain a quaternary ammonium compound in their chemical makeup and are used in an extensive variation of everyday products including hair conditioners, moisturizers, body washes and even household products like laundry softeners and anti-static agents.

One of the worst forms of quats is Quaternium-15, because it releases formaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen that can cause allergic reactions. Another form is benzalkonium chloride, which has been found to disturb natural hormone function and has been connected with growth-related and generative harmfulness. Some of the main effects after use of products containing quats include: skin irritation, your hair can become dry and brittle, and your airways can be effected. Quats also potentially contributing to several medical conditions, including cardiac diseases, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and cancer.

And, let's not even begin the discussion on babies and toddlers crawling around on your fresh QUAT'ED floors (UH), their immune system, and their sensitivities to chemicals.
