Forget Formaldehyde | Toxic Ingredients to Look Out for By Switch2Pure
Formaldehyde is defined as a naturally occurring organic compound with the formula CH₂O. It is the simplest of the aldehydes. Formaldehyde is used in many skincare and beauty products to help the product penetrate deeper into the skin. It is so commonly used by the skincare and beauty industry, in the last few years it was removed from the very popular no tear baby shampoo. Some argue that at certain levels it is safe for exposure. But, low dose exposure over long periods of time have recently been linked to cancer (or so we can surmise). If your mouth is wide open we get it!
Formaldehyde is considered to be a toxic product and has recently been linked to cancer. Yes, you read that right!! This widely used chemical has been researched by the EPA and has been linked to many illnesses including cancer. When the head of the EPA was asked about this finding here was his answer....Ed Markley recently asked the Director of the EPA, "the EPA has finalized its conclusion that formaldehyde causes leukemia and other cancers and that [the] completed new assessment is ready to be released for public review, but is being held up?! To which Pruitt replied, "You know, my understanding is similar to yours."* If the findings are released and then verified by third party, there could be a ripple effect of lawsuits for those suffering from cancer. And, the big industry skincare brands aren't going to let that happen. We read, and ask WHY?! Why, would you sacrifice public health?! But, we know there are only a few chemicals that are even banned in the US....so, it isn't that big of a surprise. That is exactly why we created the Purist List so you don't have to know about the tens of chemicals and all of their aliases when reviewing products.
